In order to have an enjoyable cycling experience, all riders must adhere to rules of the road, specific event rules as set out below and directions of event officials during the course of the events.
Whether you are participating in the Challenges, the Rides, or the Criteriums it is important that all cyclists stay alert throughout the duration of their ride and consider the safety of all individuals to be paramount. In order to have an enjoyable cycling experience, all riders must adhere to rules of the road, specific event rules, as set out below, and directions of event officials during the course of the events.
Conditions of Entry
All entrants accept the rules below upon registering their entry. In order to participate in OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012, riders must comply with any age requirement specified in their category. All participants must adhere to the following:
- All participants must follow the designated route.
- Cycle safety helmets must be worn at all times during the events.
- Every entrant must ensure that their bike is roadworthy prior to the start.
- All young riders in The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km) must be aged between five (5) and nine (9). Riders in The Junior Challenge category must be aged between ten (10) and 12.
- The Tricycle Ride (100m) is open to children aged between two (2) and 5. An accompanying parent will be allowed to walk in a clear lane alongside their children on the track.
- Family ride participants in The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km) must comprise 2 adults & one (1) or 2 children aged between 5 and 12.
- All participants in The Super Challenge (59km) must be 18 years or older.
- All participants in The Challenge (39km) must be 14 years or older.
- All participants in The Community Ride (24km) must be 10 years or older.
- For all participants under age 21, a parent or legal guardian must agree to fill in the specific consent waiver when registering online.
- Children in The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km) may be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian (who are also paid registrants) when attending the event. Accompanying adults have to be aged 18 and above.
- It is the responsibility of every participant to ensure that they are fit and healthy enough to complete the ride. If you are in any doubt, it would be advisable to consult your doctor.
In addition, please also note:
- The distances of all categories in brackets are approximate and the Organiser reserves the right to change them at any time if deemed necessary.
- The Organiser will not accept any liability for loss or damage to any individual's property or belongings.
- Enjoy your ride and have fun!
Approved Bikes in OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012
- Specialist time trial bikes, bikes with disk wheels, bikes with aero bars and fixies are not allowed for any events.
- Motorised vehicles, motorbikes, unicycles, tandem bikes and scooters are strictly forbidden on the routes.
- Only Conventional road bikes are allowed for Criterium events.
- Conventional road bikes, single speed w/ 2 brakes bikes, Touring bikes and hybrid bikes are allowed for The Super Challenge (59km).
- Conventional road bikes, mountain/trail bikes and folding bikes are allowed for The Challenge (39km), The Community Ride (24km) and The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km).
- Tandem bicycles may be used by disabled riders ONLY in The Community Ride (24km) on a case-by-case basis.
- Single speed freewheel bikes shall be accepted in The Challenge (39km) and The Community Ride (24km) provided that the bicycle is fitted with two functioning brakes.
- Recumbent bikes are only allowed in The Community Ride (24km).
- Kid's bikes with training wheels and balance bikes are not allowed in The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km).
- Only kid's bikes with training wheels and balance bikes are allowed in The Tricycle Ride. No standard bikes (with two wheels) are allowed.
- Participants who attend the event with unapproved bikes will, unfortunately, be unable to participate.
Additional Rules And Regulations
- You may NOT ride under someone else's name or number under any circumstances.
- The event will take place regardless of bad weather and will only be cancelled, re-routed or stopped for safety reasons. The final decision on this will be made by the Event Owner and Organiser, Spectrum Worldwide.
- Entry fees are not refundable or transferable.
- Children will be permitted to ride in a child seat with their parent or guardian in The Community Ride (24km) and The Mighty Savers™ Kids Ride (5km) categories ONLY, as long as the child is able to sit comfortably in a child seat with a width of 25cm or complies with the weight specifications of their own child seat. The Event Owner and Organiser, Event Sponsors or Co-Sponsors, appointed officials or staff will not be liable or responsible for any mishaps, injury or loss of life whatsoever that may occur in the course of, or as result of any child riding in a child seat during the event.
- Participants cycling with child seats will be the last to be flagged off.
Rules of the road
It is essential that participants in OCBC Cycle Singapore follow rules of the road, as well as, the direction of police, traffic management and event officials during the ride.
Riders must NOT:
- Ride without a helmet.
- Ride dangerously or negligently.
- Use MP3 Players, iPods™, walkmans or mobile phones while riding.
In addition, Riders MUST:
- Keep to the left hand side of the road at all times, to allow for faster cyclists to pass on the right.
- Remain behind the lead vehicle and in front of the support vehicles at the very rear at all times.
Also Remember:
- Always ride in the same direction as the other cyclists.
- Use hand signals if turning left or right, or stopping.
- Always look behind before overtaking another rider.
- Participants should only ride single file, unless overtaking or where there is enough room remaining for other cyclists to pass on the correct side of the road.
- Do not ride in the gutter.
- It is the rider's responsibility to follow the sign-posted route.
Assistance
There will be stationary and mobile neutral services (bike maintenance) and medical support provided throughout OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012. You MUST be wearing your event bib number to receive support.
If you require support while on the route, you can use your own mobile phone to contact the Event Control Centre for medical assistance (telephone numbers will be printed on the electronic event information booklet available on the website). Alternatively, you may advise a course marshal, police officer, event staff member or traffic management personnel, who will then call for assistance.
Medical personnel have the sole and final authority to remove a participant from the ride if the participant is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the ride.
To reduce your medical risk, the Event Owner and Organiser of OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012 recommend the following:
- Drink plenty of fluid before and during your ride.
- If you are over 35 years of age and/or have not done much regular exercise, it is strongly recommended you have a medical check-up prior to the event.
- Undertake a proper training programme to prepare for the event.
Safety Points
It is important for the safety of all cyclists participating in the event that:
- All bikes are checked and serviced before the ride, to ensure they are roadworthy.
- You should be aware of cyclists around you.
- Cyclists are to keep to the left side of the road unless overtaking and are reminded to observe traffic rules at all times.
- Overtaking on the left of a cyclist is dangerous and is not allowed.
- Call out when passing fellow cyclists.
- You start in your allocated wave.
Insurance
OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012 is covered by public liability insurance but please note this does not include personal accident insurance. It is recommended that you have personal accident insurance or health insurance.
Participants partake in this event at their own risk and the Event Organiser and Sponsors shall not be liable for any bodily injuries, loss and/or damage to property, whether personal or otherwise, and howsoever arising.
The Event Owner, Organiser and Sponsors will not be liable for the actions of participants or others, not employed by or acting on their behalf.
Additional Terms and Conditions:
By taking part in OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012, participants agree to abide by these Rules and Regulations. The Event Owner and Organiser reserves the right to modify the Rules and Regulations in any way and at any time deemed necessary or appropriate, without materially affecting the terms and conditions of this cycling event. Participants shall not, without OCBC Cycle Singapore's prior written consent, give any interview or make, give or release any statement for publication, or otherwise to be made public, by any means relating to the event.
All participants consent to the use of imagery which may include them, in any record of the event or future promotion of the event. The Organiser reserves the right to use any photographs, motion picture, recordings, or any other record of this event and its participants for any commercial advertising including legitimate purpose.
Other Terms and Conditions governing the OCBC Cycle Singapore 2012:
- Payment must be made by OCBC Credit/Debit Cards to enjoy additional OCBC Early Bird promotion specials of up to 20% (23 November 2011 to 23 December 2011) and up to 10% (24 December 2011 to 30 January 2012) during the Normal period.
- Applicable to all OCBC Credit/Debit Cardmembers excluding Cardmembers holding private label cards and Corporate Cards.
- There will be strictly no change of ride category and no refunds after registrations.
- Nor will there be any further extension of either Early Bird promotions.
