Why Cancer Research? At the OCBC Cycle Singapore press launch on 14 October, Professor London Lucien Ooi, Advisor, National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCCS) made an analogy about the importance of cancer research: "A patient with cancer undergoes a journey not unlike a cycling marathon. There are ups and downs, painful moments and joyous ones, and challenges to overcome. The cycle is a key part of the race, and I like to compare NCCS as the cycle that carries our patients through this journey. A strong reliable cycle and a healthy cyclist make for a great team. In the design of the cycle, R&D is critical, and likewise, in cancer management, research into understanding tumour behaviour and treatment options are vital. The funds raised from this event will be channeled into the NCCRF, which aims to support developments that will ultimately benefit all of us in the control of cancer." |
